Saïdou Dicko born in 1979 is a talented artist , photographer from Burkina Faso.
"Le Voleur d’Ombres" – the shadow thief – is the title of the last photo book by Saïdou Dicko. The process of photographing has often been described as the capture of fugitive shadows. In Saïdou Dicko’s pictures this metaphor becomes the real picture content. Most of the ephemeral images he catches are those of people, thus his photos remain objective and definable. They almost work like a shadow play wanting to tell a fictitious story, but for the fact that they took place so evidently in the real life.
Saïdou Dicko was born in 1979 in Déou, Burkina Faso. Today he lives and works in Dakar, Senegal. At the age of five, when he was a shepherd boy, he began to draw following the lambs’ shadow on the soil. After attending a Koranic school, he moved to Ouagadougou in order to study French. In 2005 he settled in Dakar, Senegal, where he devoted himself to photography. He took hundreds of pictures, featuring shadows of men, women, children or animals. In 2006 he exhibited his works for the first time. Since then, he has participated in several exhibitions in Africa and Europe.
