Biography :

 

Olesegun Olutoyin Aganga was named Minister of Finance and National Planning designate of Nigeria on 6 April 2010 by Jonathan Ebele Goodluck.

Born InIyin Ekiti in Ekiti state in 1955, he went to Iyin Ekiti elementary school and won a place to Christ's school Ado-Ekiti, where he was a class mate of Erantus Akingbola former CEO of the Intercontinental Bank PLC.

After this he won a place at the Ibadan University, where he won a first class honours degree in accountancy in 1980, he then went onto do a post graduate degree at Oxford University. Mr Aganga graduated from Oxford and was specialised in hedge funds and equities, becoming managing director of Goldman Sachs London.

He was the chairman of the Alternative Investment Management Association's Hedgefund research committee.

In 2006, he co-found the Nigerian Leadership Initiative which unites twice a year to promote talent and succesful leadership in Nigeria.

His ministerial nomination was resisted by the Lagos State chapter of PDP on the basis that he was filling a Lagos State ministerial position but wasn't born in the state.

Aganga is married to Abiodun (née Awobokun) and they have four children. His brother in law is the former military governor of Kwara State, Grpoup Captain Salaudeen Latinwo. His elder sister is Mercy Latinwo.
