Biography :

Asamoah Gyan born November 22, 1985 is a Ghanaian international soccer  football  player who plays for Stade Rennais, a French association football club from the city of Rennes.

Born in Accra, Ghana in 1985, Asamoah Gyan is a footballer from Ghana. Ghana was the third African team to get through to the quarter finals of a world cup and achieved this in July 2010 in South Africa.

They were congratulated by Nelson Mandela in person for their achievement. Unfortunately the match was lost, quite unfairly, because during the game, practically at the end of the prolonged time for the game, Uruguayan player blocked a goal with his hands. The ball had crossed the line and was a goal, had this been allowed, Ghana would have gone through into the semi-finals of the cup, perhaps, going onto win.

However the referee awarded a penalty to the Ghanian team and Asamoah was chosen to take it, he missed, the ball hit the top of the goal post, went over and the goal wasn't achieved. In the penalty shoot out Uruguay won and Ghana were eliminated.

He is a talented marksman and it is sure that his exposure in the world cup will draw the attention of other clubs who may be interested in him. Currently under contract to Rennes, it is rumoured that the English club West Ham are negotiating for him to join them.

Gyan scored the fastest goals in the world cup in Germany in 2006 against the Czech Republic. He and his brother Baffour participated in the 2008 African Cup of Nations. His brother is also a striker and was playing for Asante Kotoko and the Black Stars. Gyan scored three goals in the 2010 African Championships and was Ghana's top scorer.

Previously he has played for Udinese and Modena in Italy and, since 2008, he has played for Rennes, where he scored thirteen goals in the 2009 - 2010 League 1 season.
