Dekha Ibrahim Abdi (b. in 1964), is a Kenyan peacebuilder and Patron of Peace Direct,
Dekha is 2007 Recipient of the Right Livelihood Award
for outstanding vision and work on behalf of our planet and its people .A prize given out to honour those “working on practical and exemplary solutions to the most urgent challenges facing the world today”. The Jury commended her “for showing in diverse ethnic and cultural situations how religious and other differences can be reconciled even after violent conflict, and knitted together through a cooperative process that leads to peace and development“.
Dekha Ibrahim Abdi is a global peacemaker from rural Kenya. She has engaged in peace work and
conflict resolution in many of the world's most divided countries. Her comprehensive methodology
combines grassroots activism, a soft but uncompromising leadership, and a spiritual motivation
drawing on the teachings of Islam.
Born in Wajir, Kenya, Ms. Abdi has dedicated herself to building peace for the past 17 years, the last four of those years on CPMR-ESA, a project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development and implemented by DAI.Among her many contributions to CPMR-ESA, she was a Learning and Policy Advisor to the Coalition for Peace in Africa (2003-2005), and she advised the Somali Cluster in the project's CPMR Program (2005-2007).
