Hylton Appelbaum (b.October 20, 1953), is a South African business man.
Mr Hylton Appelbaum is an Executive Trustee of The Liberty Foundation as well as Executive Director of The Liberty Group Limited. He is deeply involved in community development, socio-economic development, welfare and education in South Africa. He serves on the boards of many welfare and development organisations. He is trustee of The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, The Kagiso Trust, The National Business Initiative, amongst others.
Hylton Appelbaum is an executive director of Liberty Group Limited, a major South African financial institution as well as director of a range of companies involved in economic sustainability as well as education and media. In South Africa these include Classic FM South Africa; Design Africa Conceptions; Education Interactive Solutions; Electric Liberty; Kagiso Media; Kagiso Trust Investment Company; and Learning Channel Campus. Learning Channel has programs on SABC-TV as well as educational supplements in newspapers throughout South Africa, and also includes a Web site, www.learn.co.za, which is South Africa's largest educational Internet site. It also has inspired successful projects in rural schools around the country.
Mr. Appelbaum is also a director of two South African not-for-profit companies, Buy-Afrika Trading and Institute for Global Dialogue. Outside of South Africa they are Education Interactive Inc.; Freeplay Energy Holdings and The Freeplay Foundation; Guardian Education Interactive and Learnthings Limited.
