Charles Chukwuma Soludo (b. July 28, 1960), is a Nigerian economics professor and the former Governor and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He was named Governor since 29 May 2004 until May 29, 2009 He is also a member of the British Department for International Development's International Advisory Group.
In December 2004, the Institute of Directors (IOD), an umbrella body of Nigeria’s top executives and captains of industry recognized him as the public sector reformer of the year 2004, by conferring on him the IOD 2004 Nigeria Enterprise Award, citing his achievements in designing Nigeria’s National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS) and the revolutionary reforms of the Nigerian financial system. Other key stakeholders have also recognized Prof. Soludo’s leadership. For example, he has received the 2004 Kwame Nkrumah Africa Leadership Award in Ghana; The Most Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka by the University Senate and Community; the Sun Newspaper 2004 Man of the Year; and the Thisday Newspaper 2004 Banker of the Year. Professor Soludo has over 76 academic and professional publications, including ten books and publications in top-class economic journals. Some of the books he authored or co-authored on African Economic Development are bestsellers in the United States and are read in many Universities across the globe.
