Henri Lopes (b.September 12, 1937), is a Congolese writer and diplomate. In addition to being an ex Prime Minister of Congo-Brazzaville he is also an Internationally respected ambassador of African literature. His works are well sought after. In addition to having been prime minister, he has also been minister several times including Finance and Culture and is currently the Congo representative at Unesco.
As a remarkable person in the French Negro - African field of literature, he has also played an important role in National Government and International diplomacy. With a diploma from the Sorbon, he started out his career as a teacher in his country at teacher's training school he went on to become the Managing Director of the National Programme before moving onto politics. In 1981 he took up his position at Unesco where he has been since.
He was awarded the Grand Prix at the French Academy in 1993.
