Biography :Esther Kamatari
(born in 1951
), is a Burundian writer.
Esther Kamatari was born in 1951 in Burundi, a country in which she spent her childhood and teens. Her father was of noble origin and following his assassination in 1964, the fortunes of the family changed dramatically. Aged 19 years, and with her studies at the National School of Administration completed, Esther Kamatari left Burundi for France where she became a successful "fashion model". In the 1990s
, the tragic events in Burundi and neighbouring countries and the plight of thousands of child-victims of war,
inclined her to becoming involved with the Association of the People of Burundi in France. This led her to initiate the action "One child per rugo "
with the objective of bringing some relief and help to the great numbers of children 'parked' in refugee camps, deprived of their childhood and education. She was a candidate for the 2005 Burundi presidential election .
