Biography :Mercedes Fouda
is a Cameroonian writer.
Mercedes Fouda, born in Cameroon, is an author, dramatist
, interested in language in all its forms. Having taken off a spelling prize at the famous Dictée de Pivot in the late 1980s, she published in 1995 a booklet on the peculiarities of the French language as spoken in Cameroon. This work, full of humour, was re-published in 2001 in revised format with the title "Je parle camerounais" [Cameroonian as spoken
]. But above all, it is her theatrical work for which she is best known. Among her better known plays are : "A la tête du client"
[On the basis of appearences] featuring two crafty characters who have set up a laboratory supposedly for testing for AIDS.; "Mamam foetus" [Mum foetus] ;
and "Vivre mort" [To live death]
written in Cameroon in 1998. Mercedes was writer-in-residence at Limoges in 1998.
