Cheikh Hamidou Kane is one of the best known African writers in the world. From his Peul origins, born in Matam in 1928, Hamidou Kane is the author of one of the great classics of African culture " L'Aventure ambiguë
(Julliard)", where he talks about the African problem, the choice between modern and tradition.
He was a minister in the government of Senegal and a high dignitary in international affairs. He represented UNICEF in Africa, in Lagos and Abidjan. This involved him travelling throughout the continent from South to the Sahara.
His novel "L'Aventure ambiguë"
received the African Prize for expression in the french language. This autobiographical recital describes the cultural problem with which Africa is confronted. The principal actor, Samba Diallo, whose ascendants consider as the spiritual chief of their country is destined to learn about European culture in order to understand the realities which face him. His novel relates the conflicts between cultures and the problems encountered in their resolution.
