Cinzia Catalfamo Akbaralyborn January 21, 1966, is of Italian origin, naturalised Madagascan. She is the Founder and President of the Akbaraly Foundation.
Italian and educated as an Economist, specializing in developing countries, she started her professional career in 1989, as Deputy Director of the project Leningrad International Management Institute in Saint-Petersburg to teach Western economic approach to Eastern countries.
In 1991, she became General Director of “IRC”, clothing trading company, operating in Italy and Mauritius. After meeting her husband, Ylias Akbaraly, she moved to Madagascar, in 1993, where she held the Marketing Manager position for “Pret Export”, clothing factory for western markets.
In 2000, she was appointed General Consul for Italy in Madagascar.
Achievements & merits: She committed herself in social programs and founded the FIHAVANANA ASSOCIATION, to help orphanages and poor kids of Madagascar, in 1994. Since 2008, she is the Founder and President of the AKBARALY FOUNDATION, initiator of the 4AWOMAN project, helping women to prevent and treat cancer in Madagascar, supported by the World Health Organization.
She organized the TEDx Antananarivo event “Ideas for Women Cancer Control In Africa”, third most-watched event on the Internet on May 14th 2011. The AKBARALY FOUNDATION also strives to improve the welfare of the needy by increasing their access to basic human needs like drinking water, food, medical help, building houses and schools.
